Urban Redevelopment

The citizen-led Vision 2030 initiative established goals and objectives for what residents want the Gainesville-Hall County Metro Area to become by the year 2030. Many goals of Vision 2030 are supported through the planning, infrastructure and investments of urban redevelopment:

  • to become a community of towns
  • to preserve the traditional scale of buildings, streets and public spaces
  • to encourage connectedness among residents, workers & visitors
  • to create unique art districts
  • to protect and encourage greenspace projects, like the Central Hall Trail
  • to develop a state-of-the-art hotel/conference center in downtown Gainesville
  • to develop high speed rail connectivity

A community’s downtown is an indicator of its health and vitality. The Cities of Gainesville, Oakwood, Flowery Branch and Lula have initiated urban redevelopment efforts that incorporate public investments in planning, greenspace and infrastructure to better leverage and encourage private sector investment.
